Seattle Mariners catcher Jesus Montero will be demoted to Triple A Tacoma, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. The Mariners have recalled Jesus Sucre to replace Montero on the big league roster.

Montero is batting a lowly .208 with three home runs and nine RBI in 101 at bats for the Mariners this season. Montero was traded to the Mariners from the New York Yankees in exchange for right-hander Michael Pineda. Pineda had season-ending surgery to correct a tear in his shoulder last season.

The Mariners currently have three catchers deployed at Triple A and could use Montero at other positions. After being named the starting catcher in Spring Training, Montero lost the starting job to Kelly Shoppach and his performance at the plate has further limited his playing time.
