Steelers' Ben Roethlisberger to young QBs: 'One year does not mean a lot'

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger knows a thing or two about high expectations put on young signal callers once they enter the NFL.

For up and coming stars like Robert Griffin III, Andrew Luck, Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson, Roethlisberger says they need to prove that they are more than just a one year wonder.

"People ask me all the time about these young quarterbacks," Roethlisberger said to USA TODAY. "Let's wait. One year does not mean a lot in this league. Let's see what happens in two, three years.

Roethlisberger went 14-1 as a starting quarterback in his rookie season in 2004 and helped lead the team to the AFC Championship game. He also won AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. The Steelers won the Super Bowl the next year.

"I'm not trying to take anything away from them. I think they did some great things last year, and they all have the potential to be great quarterbacks," Roethlisberger said. "But you don't want people to jump on their bandwagon so fast and put so much pressure on them to live up to those expectations. My advice to them is to keep doing what you're doing, playing as hard as you can because people will keep trying to build you up and it could get tough."
