The Cleveland Indians have placed closer Chris Perez on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder soreness, the team announced Monday. Perez exited Sunday's game against the Boston Red Sox after only retiring two of the seven batters he faced. Perez exited with a 2-1 count on Jacoby Ellsbury after feeling a pinch in his right shoulder.

Perez had been dealing with some shoulder stiffness for the past few weeks and Perez said his shoulder was getting better but he took a "couple steps back" during his outing on Sunday. This is the first time Perez has been placed on the disabled list in his career.
