Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds already wants an expansion on the four-team playoff set to begin in the 2014 season. Dodds said on Thursday that college football ultimately needs at least an eight-team playoff, calling the four-team playoff a "good step" but a "baby step."

Dodds said that an eight-team playoff would cut down on some of the controversy over which teams ultimately make the playoff.

"I think there'll be a lot of conversation about the fifth team and who didn't get in and an 11-1 team that didn't get in because somebody's 12-0 that maybe wasn't quite as good as 11-1," he told reporters at the Big 12's annual spring meetings, according to ESPN.com. "If you take eight, you're not going to have that. The ninth team is going to have a concern, but it's not like the fifth team."
Dodds, who started at Texas in 1981, has been a proponent of a college football playoff for quite some time.
