Cleveland Indians pitcher Chris Perez is under investigation by police after a package believed to contain a controlled substance was delivered to his address, officials said Wednesday. No charges have been filed.

The Rocky River police told a reporter for Cleveland's FOX affiliate that officials had been tracking the package allegedly containing narcotics, and that Perez lives in the house in question.

The Indians released a statement attributed to general manager Chris Antonetti:

“Earlier this morning we were made aware of a situation involving RHP Chris Perez that occurred yesterday in Rocky River. We have talked with Chris and are currently in the process of gathering additional information.  We will not have any additional comment at this time.”
Perez, the Indians closer, is on the disabled list with an injured right shoulder. The 27-year-old has been with Cleveland since 2009. He made headlines earlier this year when he deleted his Twitter account after being hit with negative - and often profane - comments from fans after back-to-back poor outings.
