Former Missouri guard Michael Dixon committed to Memphis Wednesday night, informing Tigers coach Josh Pastner of his decision by phone, reports ESPN.com.

Dixon was kicked off Missouri last November after a female student accused him of sexual assault, the second such claim made against him over the past three years.

Dixon said he will fly back to Memphis on Thursday morning and begin classes, but must get a waiver from the NCAA to be eligible to play immediately.

"I'm just glad it's over," said Dixon, who will be a senior. "I'm ready to move on."

Prosecutors in the sexual assault investigation said they lacked sufficient evidence to interview Dixon in the second case. The first alleged victim declined to press charges against him.

Dixon averaged 13.5 points and 3.3 assists as a junior in 2011-12, leading Missouri to a Big 12 tournament championship.

More from ESPN.com:

Dixon's family is hopeful the NCAA will grant its son a waiver similar to the one obtained last fall by Dez Wells, who was expelled from Xavier amid sexual assault allegations but never was charged. "This is not how I want to be remembered," Dixon said. "I want another chance to prove myself."
