Hall of Famer and former New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing was hired by the Charlotte Bobcats as associate head coach, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports. He'll join the coaching staff of recently hired head coach Steve Clifford.

Ewing served as an assistant coach for eight years from 2008-12 with Orlando and from 2003-08 with the Rockets. He has also interviewed for head coaching positions in the past -- the Bobcats in 2012 and Pistons in 2011.

Kings' head coach Mike Malone also courted Ewing for his staff. As a player, Ewing was with the Knicks for 15 years (1985-2000) and also had stints with the Seattle Sonics and Magic toward the end of his career. He averaged 21 points, 9.8 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game over the course of his career and was an All-Star 11 times.
