The New York Yankees have placed third baseman Kevin Youkilis on the disabled list with a lumbar spine sprain, according to Star-Ledger reporter Andy McCullough. After playing an 18-inning game against the Oakland Athletics, Youkilis woke up Friday morning with numbness in his right foot that wouldn't go away.

The injury has been lingering and Youkilis is set to see a specialist on the West Coast during the current Yankees road trip. This is the second time the veteran third baseman has hit the disabled list for the Yankees this season. He missed five weeks due to a lumbar spine strain earlier in the season.

Youkilis has played in 29 games this season for the Yankees, hitting .217 with two home runs and eight RBI.
