The Tampa Bay Rays announced on Sunday that they have called up top outfield prospect Wil Myers, ending days of speculation. He will join the team in time for a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday against the Boston Red Sox.

Myers' arrival in Tampa Bay has been highly anticipated ever since he served as the main asset acquired by the Rays in a trade involving starter James Shields last offseason. The 22-year-old Myers was ranked the No. 4 prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America before the start of the season.

In 63 games with Triple-A Durham this season, Myers hit .283 with a .354 on-base percentage, .514 slugging percentage, 14 homers and 57 RBI. He has been on fire over the past three weeks, batting .347 with 10 homers and a 1.126 OPS since May 23.

"He's going to play a lot," Rays manager Joe Maddon said of Myers, according to the Tampa Bay Times. "Of course you don't bring somebody like that up to sit around."
