New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was cleared on Monday to face live pitching for the first time since having left hip surgery in January, reports the Newark Star-Ledger.

Rodriguez ran the bases at 75 percent effort over the weekend and will likely be activated from the disabled list shortly after the All-Star break if everything goes smoothly in his continued rehab. Rodriguez was placed on the 60-day disabled list to start the season and has not played this season.

Rodriguez still faces the possibility of being suspended by Major League Baseball because of alleged connections with a South Florida clinic that Major League Baseball is investigating because of a possible distribution of performance-enhancing drugs to as many as 20 MLB players.
