Former Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella has been offered the head coaching job for the Vancouver Canucks and the two sides are close to a deal, reports the Winnipeg Free Press.

If Tortorella accepts the job, he would replace Alain Vigneault, who was just hired by the Rangers to replace Tortorella.

The Canucks are currently the only team in the National Hockey League without a coach.

Tortorella had a 171-118-30 regular-season record and a 19-25 playoff mark in four plus seasons with the team before being fired last month. He led the Lightning to the Stanley Cup championship in 2004.
