New York Mets pitcher Jonathon Niese has a rotator cuff tear in his pitching shoulder, according to ESPN's Adam Rubin. Niese will rest for two weeks before being sent for another MRI in two weeks to determine is the shoulder will require surgery. No timetable has been given for Niese to return.

Niese exited his June 20 start against the Atlanta Braves with one out in the bottom of the 4th inning with shoulder discomfort. Mets assistant GM John Ricco said a recent MRI of Niese's pitching shoulder revealed the tear and the team is not completely ruling out surgery for the lefty.

Niese is 3-6 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 77 innings this season for the Mets this season.
