An MRI revealed on Saturday that San Francisco Giants center fielder Angel Pagan suffered a torn hamstring while rehabbing from a strain in Single-A.

Out since May, Pagan began a rehab assignment on Thursday, when he reportedly heard a pop in his left leg while running out a grounder.

The 31-year-old pulled up short of first base and fell to the ground, San Jose Giants announcer Joe Ritzo told CSNBayArea.com's Andrew Baggarly.

Pagan told reporters on Saturday that he would seek a second opinion before opting for surgery, which would sideline him for six weeks.

From CSNBayArea.com:

“It’s a setback; it’s back to zero,” Pagan said in front of his locker in the Giants’ clubhouse.

...

“I’m just going to make sure that whatever I have to do, try to get better and be as strong as possible,” Pagan said. “I’ll make sure that when I come back I’ll be 100% and ready to contribute to the team.”

Pagan signed a four-year, $40-million contract in the offseason to remain with the Giants after sparking the team to a World Series victory in October.
