A day after Brian Cashman told Alex Rodriguez to "shut the (expletive) up," about providing updates on his rehabilitation process, Rodriguez released a statement to explain his tweet. In a statement released on Wednesday, Rodriguez said it was "pure excitement" that led him to provide an update of his rehabilitation process.

Rodriguez, who joined Twitter on May 31 under the handle @AROD, drew the ire of GM Brian Cashman after A-Rod tweeted a positive prognosis from his doctor regarding his hip rehabilitation process. Cashman said the team doctors haven't cleared Rodriguez to play in games and there's a "chain of command" when players return from injury.

A-Rod's statement:

"I will continue to work hard until my efforts get me back in pinstripes and help my team win," Rodriguez said in a statement released by his publicist Wednesday. "The tweet was pure excitement about Dr. Kelly's prognosis."
