Devils select Martin Brodeur's son, Anthony, with final NHL Draft pick

The New Jersey Devils drafted Anthony Brodeur, the son of legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur, with their final pick in the NHL Draft Sunday night, prompting a flurry of cheers from a local crowd in Newark, N.J.

Martin Brodeur announced the pick in a special presentation during the seventh and final round of the draft.

"The Devils are proud to select ... Anthony Brodeur," Martin said. Anthony walked down from the crowd, hugged his father and put on a No. 3 Devils jersey.

The Devils acquired the 208th pick in the draft from the Los Angeles Kings to select Anthony Brodeur, a goaltender who comes from a program — Shattuck-St. Mary's in Minnesota — that has spawned NHL stars Zach Parise and Sidney Crosby, among others.

Martin Brodeur later took to Twitter to congratulate his son on being selected:
