Update: Altidore's Web site has pulled its announcement of the signing, so it remains to be seen if his move to Sunderland is official.

AZ Alkmaar has agreed to sell the rights to striker Jozy Altidore on Friday to Sunderland of the English Premier League, according to multiple reports. A press release on Altidore's official website confirmed Sunderland's acquisition.

Financial details of the transfer between the two clubs were not disclosed. According to an ESPN report, Sunderland had been in hot pursuit of Altidore's services for weeks.

The U.S. striker became the first American player to score more than 30 goals in a European season by helping AZ Alkmaar win its first Dutch Cup in 31 years. The 23-year-old scored 31 goals last season for AZ Alkmaar.
