Chauncey Billups returns to Pistons on 2-year, $5M deal

Los Angeles Clippers unrestricted free agent point guard Chauncey Billups, who once led the Detroit Pistons to an NBA Championship in 2004, will return to the Motor City on a two-year deal worth $5 million, according to a report Thursday morning from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

The 36-year-old guard, who was named NBA Finals MVP in 2004 for Detroit's Game 5 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, reportedly wants to finish in the place he spent the prime of his career. This time around, he will come off the bench and help serve as a mentor for 21-year-old guard Brandon Knight.

After six years in the Palace of Auburn Hills, Billups was traded by General Manager and former Piston Joe Dumars in November 2008 for the expiring contract of Allen Iverson so that he could play with the Nuggets in his hometown of Denver.

More recently, the five-time all-star suffered an Achilles tear this past February with the Clippers but returned to play part of the second half of the season as a backup to Chris Paul. He ended up appearing in 22 contests last season for Los Angeles, averaging 8.4 points on 40 percent shooting and 2.2 assists in 19 minutes per game.
