Report: Derek Jeter to rejoin New York Yankees on Thursday

The Yankees' long wait is over: Derek Jeter will be rejoining the team Thursday afternoon against Kansas City, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. Jeter has missed the entire season to date because of a fractured ankle suffered in the 2012 American League Championship Series against Detroit, an injury he aggravated during Spring Training.

Jeter, 39, went 0-for-3 with a strikeout in what ended up being the final game of his rehab Wednesday night with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Jeter played seven innings, all at shortstop, and made a throwing error. He went 1-for-9 in his four rehab games at Triple-A.

The Yankees have not announced how they will make room on their roster for Jeter. They are currently 49-42, 5 1/2 games back in the American League East, after beating the Royals 8-1 on Wednesday night. In Jeter's absence, the Yankees have employed a rotating cast of players at shortstop, including Jayson Nix and Eduardo Nunez.
