Michigan Wolverines head coach John Beilein signed a three-year contract extension on Wednesday to remain at the school until the end of the 2018-19 season, according to an Associated Press report citing Michigan's Athletic Director Dave Brandon. The deal is for $2.45 million total compensation per year.

Beilein first came to the school in 2007 after taking the West Virginia Mountaineers to the NIT Championship. He went on to sign a contract extension with Michigan during the 2010-11 season, a year after leading the Wolverines to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1998. At the time of his extension, he became the school's highest-paid basketball coach in the history of its program. The six-year deal was worth $1.3 million per season, plus bonuses. The deal would have kept him with the team until 2016 but now the school has signed him to a new contract that will keep him for three additional years until 2019.

The 60-year-old Beilein has a career record of 673-403. The New York native led the Wolverines to their first NCAA Finals appearance in two decades last season, losing in the title game to Rick Pitino and the Louisville Cardinals this past April, falling 82-76.
