Report: Red Sox, Dustin Pedroia discussing $100 million extension

The Boston Red Sox and second baseman Dustin Pedroia are in discussions about a contract extension that could be worth upwards of $100 million, according to Yahoo! reporter Jeff Passan.

The proposed deal would make Pedroia the highest-paid second baseman in all of baseball. According to the report, both sides still have a "bridge" to close in terms of years and dollars but both parties are "motivated" to get a deal completed. Talks between Pedroia and the Red Sox reportedly picked up over the All-Star break.

The framework of the deal would reportedly earn Pedroia $20 million annually over five or six years. Pedroia, 29, has one year remaining at $10 million on his current contract with the Red Sox holding an $11 million option for the 2014-15 season.
