Cubs pitcher Matt Garza traded to Texas Rangers
Garza was scratched from his start Monday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks, suggesting a deal may have been close. The deal will be complete pending physicals for the players involved.
The Rangers had long been considered front-runners for Garza, who is 5-0 with a 1.24 ERA in his past six starts. The Rangers currently have five starting pitchers on the disabled list in Yu Darvish, Matt Harrison, Colby Lewis, Alexi Ogando and Nick Tepesch.
Just the day before, the team was certain Garza would take the mound.
“I would say 100 percent he will be pitching tomorrow,” Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum said before Sunday’s game against the Colorado Rockies. "He's pitching. There is only a 50-50 chance of things happening most of the time anyway. It is hard to put a label on what Garza is going through."
The Rangers are 54-44, 1.5 games back in the Wild Card race and three games back of the Oakland A’s in the American League West.
