Report: Cardinals sign defensive end John Abraham

The Arizona Cardinals have dipped into free agency to bolster their pass rush, signing defensive end John Abraham to a two-year contract on Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Mike Garafalo of FOX Sports tweeted the deal was worth roughly $6 million.

The former Falcon's free agency tour arrived at the Cardinals headquarters Wednesday to interview with the team.

Abraham, 35, was released by the Falcons in March after seven seasons, with two years remaining on his contract at $4.25 million and $3.25 million respectively. In May, USA Todayreported Abraham had turned down overtures from the Falcons to return to Atlanta.

The four-time Pro Bowler met with the Patriots, Broncos, Seahawks and Titans prior to the Cardinals and reportedly was seeking more money and a commitment to playing time before he signed.

It remains to be seen how Abraham will adjust to outside linebacker in the Cardinals' 3-4 scheme. He averaged 11 sacks over the last three years in the Falcons' 4-3 alignment, and has totaled 122 career sacks primarily as a defensive end starting each play with his hand on the turf.
