Pirates closer Jason Grilli won't need surgery for arm injury

Pittsburgh Pirates All-Star closer Jason Grilli has a flexor strain in his right arm and won't need surgery at this time, the team announced Friday.

Grilli was seen by team doctors as well as Dr. James Andrews and will need a rest period before starting a throwing program. The team also said that Grilli will be re-evaluated in the next 10-14 days and that an estimated return date will be better clarified after a follow-up exam.

Grilli was injured during the ninth inning of Monday night's game against the Washington Nationals after having discomfort in his forearm. The team then placed him on the 15-day disabled list.
