49ers' Tarell Brown finds out he lost $2 million via Twitter

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown will lose $2 million of his 2013 salary because he lacked knowledge of a clause in his contract that required him to participate in the 49ers' offseason workout program. He had been working out in the offseason at his home in Texas instead of at the 49ers' facility in Santa Clara, Calif.

And he didn't find out about it until Thursday morning — via Twitter.

Despite the bizarre fiasco, Brown participated in practice on Thursday. According to The Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows, Brown immediately fired his agent, Brian Overstreet, upon learning of the mix-up.

"I no longer have an agent as of now," Brown said after practice. "... No one wants to leave money on the table. If I would have known the clauses in my contract and that's what agents get paid to do -- to orchestrate the contract and let you know what you can and can't do as far as workouts and OTAs and things of that sort. That's what he got paid to do, he didn't do that, so in my opinion he had to be let go."

Without his contract's escalator clause, Brown will earn $925,000 this season. The 28-year-old is coming off the best two seasons of his career, starting all 32 games while intercepting six passes.
