North Carolina men's basketball coach Roy Williams has suspended junior guard P.J. Hairston indefinitely, the school announced Sunday night.

In its short announcement of the suspension, the program cited Hairston's Sunday afternoon traffic citation for reckless driving. USA Today reported that Hairston was driving 93 mph in a 65-mph zone.

But the traffic citation is just one in a number of piling-up off-the-court issues for Hairston, who led North Carolina in scoring with 14.6 points per game last season. Just last week, authorities dismissed charges against him stemming from a traffic stop on June 5. He was arrested and charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession and driving without a license.

That traffic stop was the second time in a month that Hairston had been cited while driving a rental vehicle linked to a convicted felon — Haydn Patrick "Fats" Thomas, who has ties to several college athletes in the area.

Less than two weeks ago, Williams had hinted at a possible suspension for Hairston, and the latest incident appears to have forced his hand.

"P.J. and I have had several discussions already and he knows he has made serious mistakes and there will be serious consequences as a result," Williams said in a statement on July 15.
