Seahawks WR Percy Harvin says injured hip will require surgery

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin said Tuesday night via Twitter that his hip injury will require surgery, and he could return to the field in three to four months.

The team announced that Harvin will have surgery on Thursday.

Harvin went to New York on Tuesday to meet with a hip specialist. Seahawks doctors had said that they believed the injury was not season-threatening, but Harvin exercised his right to seek a second opinion. The team had originally placed him on the physically unable to perform list to start training camp.

Seattle traded for Harvin in March and quickly signed him to a six-year, $67 million contract. The Seahawks sent a first-round and a seventh-round pick in the 2013 draft and a third-round pick in the 2014 draft to the Minnesota Vikings for Harvin.

He finished last season on injured reserve with an ankle injury that he suffered Nov. 4.  In four NFL seasons, Harvin has caught 280 passes in 54 games for 3,302 yards and 20 touchdowns.
