NC State running back Shadrach Thornton has been charged with misdemeanor assault of a female and is set to appear in court Aug. 22, NC State Assistant Athletics Director for Communications Annabelle Myers confirmed.

Head coach Dave Doeren is aware of Thornton's recent arrest, and Thornton has been suspended from the team. Doeren said there are certain standards he wants his team to adhere to and said Thornton did not live up to those standards.

Thornton led the Wolfpack in rushing last season as a freshman as he tallied 694 yards despite starting just four games last season. He ended the season with three consecutive 100-yard rushing efforts.

Head coach Dave Doeren spoke about Shadrach Thornton's arrest:

"We were made aware of the situation in June and Shadrach was suspended immediately," Doeren said in a statement Sunday night. "We have certain standards that we want our players to live by, on and off the field, and he did not live up to those standards. He had to earn his way back into team activities."
