Report: Michael Vick to start Eagles' preseason opener

Michael Vick lost his starting job to Nick Foles in the Eagles' disappointing 2012 season. The firing of Andy Reid and hiring of Oregon coach Chip Kelly appeared to give Vick's uncertain NFL future a second chance in Philadelphia. ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports -- via an Adam Schefter tweet -- that Vick will start the Eagles' Friday night preseason opener against the Patriots.

While snaps and series in preseason openers don't usually provide significant insight into quarterback battles, Vick reportedly has bounced back under Kelly and positioned himself ahead of Foles. The Eagles listed Vick and Foles as starters in their initial training camp depth chart, and Vick said he did not know which quarterback was the team's starter in a press conference. But a CSN Philly report said Vick had separated himself from Foles and Matt Barkley.

Vick appeared on his way out of Philadelphia after his benching, but was excited enough to try his talents in Kelly's scheme to sign back on with the Eagles in February.
