New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is expected to miss the rest of the preseason after needing knee surgery, reports ESPN.com.

Vilma is reportedly in Philadelphia getting arthroscopic knee surgery but is expected to be ready for the Saints regular season opener Sept. 8 against the Atlanta Falcons.

Vilma, 31, played in just 11 games last season because of knee problems and did not play in the team's first preseason game last week. He had 37 tackles and one sack in 2012.
