Texans running back Arian Foster was taken off the Physically Unable to Perform list and practiced with the team Wednesday.

Coach Gary Kubiak said Foster performed well in his first practice with the Texans since the start of training camp, but would probably not play in the team's two remaining preseason games.

From ESPN:

"I would love to, but we're going to be smart," Kubiak said on playing Foster in the preseason. "...Is it a must [that he carry the ball in the preseason in order] to be ready for San Diego? I don't think so."

Earlier this week, Kubiak was optimistic that Foster would be ready to play in the Texans' season-opener, Sept. 9 at San Diego.

From HoustonTexans.com:

“Yes, I am because I watch him work,” Kubiak said Monday. “I’ve been watching him. He’s basically going through practices or has been since we’ve been in camp on his own with (head athletic trainer) Geoff (Kaplan), and obviously there’s been a little setback as we try to get the soreness out of him.”

Foster was placed on the PUP list after suffering a calf injury during organized team activities prior to training camp. A subsequent back injury extended his time on the sidelines. Foster's lingering issue has been discomfort in his leg resulting from injections prior to the Texans' first preseason game. He has been running as part of his rehabilitation.

From the Houston Chronicle:

“It’s really important,” Kubiak said. “Like I told y’all all along, he’s been working — it’s not like he’s been standing around. We’re just trying to get all that soreness out. He felt really good the last two days, so we made the decision (Wednesday) and I think we took a big step forward.”

He added: “He’s knocking my door down to play. But I think the key is … we just have a couple good weeks of practice and bring him along as if he’s just started training camp.”
