Green Bay Packers release Graham Harrell, leaving Vince Young as backup QB

Less than three weeks after signing a one-year deal, Vince Young appears to have won the Green Bay Packers' backup quarterback competition.

The Packers have released second-year quarterback Graham Harrell, according to NFL.com.

The move comes on the heels of Green Bay's 17-10 loss to the Seahawks in their third preseason game on Friday, in which Harrell -- who served as Aaron Rodgers' backup last season -- completed just 6 of 13 passes for 49 yards.

Young, by comparison, went 6 for 7 for 41 yards and rushed for 39 yards on three carries.

Harrell's release leaves Young and 2013 seventh-round pick B.J. Coleman as the only quarterbacks on the Packers' roster behind Rodgers, who has missed just two games in five seasons as a starter.

Young sat out the 2012 season after being released by the Bills at the end of the preseason. He appeared in six games as the Eagles' backup in 2011, throwing four touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Prior to that, Young spent the first four seasons of his career with the Tennessee Titans, who drafted him with the third overall pick in 2006 after a storied college career at Texas.
