New Orleans Saints linebacker Will Smith will miss the 2013 season with a knee injury sustained during the Saints preseason game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, according to multiple reports.

Smith left the game against the Texans after a being a part of a pile up after Texans quarterback Matt Schaub was sacked by Saints defensive end Cam Jordan. Smith, 31, was making the transition to outside linebacker under new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan's 3-4 defensive scheme and took a pay cut of $6 million to remain in New Orleans.

The Saints linebacking core has been decimated by injury early in the preseason. Smith joins linebackers Victor Butler, Martez Wilson and Junior Galette as players that will miss significant time due to injury.
