A team spokesman for Louisville told The Courier-Journal that Lorenzo Mauldin is "alert and responsive" after he was hit by a car Tuesday morning while riding his moped through campus.

Bystanders told police a champagne-colored sedan or compact car hit Mauldin then drove away. The junior defensive end was taken to Jewish Hospital, where he had tests performed. The extent of the injury is unknown at this point.

Mauldin, an Atlanta native, started six of 11 games last season for the Cardinals, recording 4.5 sacks. No. 9 Louisville opens the season Sunday against Ohio.
