Blue Jays starter J.A. Happ hit Cano on the left hand with a 90-mph fastball in the top of the first inning. After Cano reached base, Alfonso Soriano hit the next Happ offering deep into left field to give the Yankees a 4-0 lead.
MLB.com reports that X-rays on Cano's hand have come back negative, and he is day-to-day with a hand contusion.
Cano then left the game and was replaced by Eduardo Nunez.
Happ is also the same pitcher who hit Yankees centerfielder Curtis Granderson in spring training, causing him to miss a good portion of the first half of the season with a broken right wrist.
