San Diego Padres left fielder Carlos Quentin will have right knee surgery and is out for remainder of the season, the team announced Wednesday.

Quentin will have surgery at a later date and it will be his third knee surgery since March 2012.

Quentin, who turned 31 today, has not played in a game since July 30.  The team put him on the 15-day disabled list with a strained knee two weeks ago.

Quentin was batting .275 with a team-leading 45 RBI and 13 homers this season for the Padres.
