RG3 cleared to play in Redskins' season-opener

Robert Griffin III has received clearance from Dr. James Andrews to play in the Washington Redskins' season-opening game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Redskins head coach Mike Shanahan said Thursday night.
Shanahan made the comments, according to the Washington Post, after the Redskins wrapped up their preseason by beating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-12. Shanahan said that Andrews cleared Griffin after examining Griffin's surgically repaired knee before the game.
Shanahan did hedge a bit, however, declining to say whether Griffin would start the team's Week 1 game and adding that Andrews had a "couple concerns."
"Once I talk with Robert over the weekend, I’ll share them with you," Shanahan said, according to the Post.
For his part, Griffin could barely contain his excitement, taking to Twitter to declare "Operation Patience" a success:
Griffin tore multiple ligaments in the Redskins' playoff game last season against the Seattle Seahawks. Griffin first injured his right knee in a Week 14 overtime win over the Baltimore Ravens, and he later re-injured it in the playoff game.
