West Virginia's leading rusher from last season, Andrew Buie, has withdrawn from school, reports The Charleston Gazette.

Buie ran for 851 yards and seven touchdowns last season, including 207 in a victory against Texas.

But Buie was buried on the Mountaineers depth chart coming into this season, being the fifth choice out of the five running backs on the roster.

More from the Charleston Gazette:

It was at his Tuesday press conference that Holgorsen had announced that Buie would redshirt this season. That seemed odd, but he was also a part of a very deep running back group that included newcomers Charles Sims, Dreamius Smith and Wendell Smallwood. Because he was redshirting, Buie would have practiced on the scout team this season, but he reportedly missed several practices before withdrawing.
