The Buffalo Bills could be without safety Jairus Byrd for the first couple of weeks of the regular season because of a plantar fasciitis injury, NFL.com. reports.

The website reports that Byrd dealt with the same injury last season but took "a couple" of shots to get through the year.

Byrd did not play the entire preseason after holding out of training camp in hopes of getting a long-term deal with the team.

The Bills slapped Byrd with a one-year franchise tender, worth $6.916 million and he finally signed the tender two weeks ago.

"I need to be good to go before I step out there," Byrd said this week. "Once my body allows me to be out there and be at 100 percent ready to play, I'll go."
