Heat bringing Michael Beasley back to Miami

The Miami Heat announced the signing of Michael Beasley on Thursday.

Beasley, the second player taken overall by the Heat in the 2008 draft, was released by the Suns a week ago following one troubled season.

Beasley's year in Phoenix included an arrest for marijuana possession in August. He reportedly was under investigation for an alleged sexual assault in May. Beasley has not been charged but the case is still open, according to the Arizona Republic. Beasley was cited on Jan. 25 for multiple driving violations for driving 71 mph in a 45-mph zone in a Mercedes that did not have a license plate. He was driving on a suspended license, and a loaded gun was found in the vehicle.

Shortly after being drafted by the Heat, Beasley was fined $50,000 for his role in a marijuana-related incident at the Rookie Transition Program. He also spent time in a substance abuse treatment center in 2009 before the Heat traded him to the Timberwolves.

In Minnesota, Beasley was pulled over for speeding and cited for marijuana possession during the 2011 lockout. He also shoved a fan in the face during an exhibition game in New York.

The Heat tweeted a quote from president Pat Riley saying Beasley "had the best years of his career with us. We feel that he can help us."

Beasley averaged 13.9 points and 5.4 rebounds per game as a rookie, and followed that with 14.8 points and 6.4 rebounds in his second season with the Heat. He averaged a career-high 19.2 points with the Timberwolves during the 2010-11 season.
