Brett Gardner out 'a while' with Grade 1 oblique strain, may miss rest of season

New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 oblique strain and may miss the rest of the season, according to Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

Gardner exited Thursday's game with a left oblique injury and Girardi said today his everyday centerfielder will be out "a while."

In a season marred with injuries, Gardner has been one of the lone productive bats for the Yankees this season. Gardner had played in 145 games this season while hitting a career-high eight home runs while leading the league in triples with 10.

Gardner is batting .273 with eight homers , 52 RBI, and a .344 OBP this season. He also has 24 stolen bases. The Yankees enter play on Friday just one game out of the remaining wild card spot in the American League.
