Miami Dolphns GM Jeff Ireland had his contract extended through the 2014 season

Miami Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland received a contract extension through the 2014 season over the summer, according to the Miami Herald.

The Dolphins improved to 3-0 this season with a win over the Falcons on Sunday, the team's best start since 2002.  Miami has made the playoffs only once since Ireland assumed the Dolphins' GM position prior to the 2008 season, but he succeeded in bringing on several high-profile free agents over the past offseason, highlighted by wide receiver Mike Wallace.

Ireland's contract was set to expire at the end of the current season. Details of this extension are not yet known.
