Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Le'Veon Bell is expected to make his debut Sunday against the Vikings, coach Mike Tomlin told reporters Tuesday.

Bell, a second-round pick out of Michigan State, injured his foot during the second preseason game and hasn't played since. He was initially expected to return in Week 6 - after Pittsburgh's Week 5 bye.

But Bell made progress late last week and there was some speculation that he might even appear against Chicago in Week 3.

"He perked up dramatically at the end of last week," Tomlin said, according to a tweet from ESPN's Scott Brown.

Bell's return can't come soon enough for Pittsburgh. The Steelers are 0-3 and have struggled on offense. The team is barely averaging 50 rushing yards per game.
