Last week, Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak told Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com that Allen Craig was probably done for the season. On Friday, Mozeliak confirmed a sprained foot will keep the first baseman out of the NLDS.

While the NLCS or World Series are not out of the question, Mozeliak told reporters the team was taking a conservative approach to Craig's status. The club does not want to cause further injury to Craig or endanger his health for the beginning of the 2014 season.

Craig, a first-time All-Star, has been out of the lineup since Sept. 4. He's been a major run-producer for the Cardinal this season, batting .315/.373/.457 in 563 plate appearances, plus .454 with runners in scoring position and 97 RBI. Matt Adams will continue to play first base with Craig sidelined.
