Joe Girardi wants to return to Yankees next season

New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi expects his team to look a lot different next season. But he doesn't expect himself to be one of the changes.

Girardi's contract is up after the season, and there has been speculation that the Chicago Cubs could be interested in luring him away from New York. But he told WFAN's Mike Francesa on Thursday that he doesn't want to or expect to go anywhere else.

“I’ve loved it here, Mike. This has been wonderful for my family and I whether I’ve been a player, coach or manager,” Girardi told Francesa. “I will sit down and talk to Brian [Cashman] when the season is over. Until we sit down there is really nothing to report.

“There are some decisions that I have to make in my life and I will sit down and talk to my wife and children like I have every year. But like I said, I’ve loved being here,” Girardi added.

The Yankees missed the playoffs in 2013, the second time they have been held out of postseason play in Girardi's six seasons at the helm. But with the amount of injuries that have piled up this season — not to mention the off-field distractions — he has garnered a fair amount of praise for guiding the Yankees to a winning record.

The Yankees will have a flurry of big offseason decisions to make. At the top of the list is the impending free agency of second baseman Robinson Cano, who is reportedly seeking a contract of more than $300 million.
