Cleveland Browns quarterback Brian Hoyer left Thursday night's game with a right knee injury, and the team fears that he has torn ligaments in the knee.

NFL.com's Alex Flanagan reported Thursday night that Hoyer would not return to the Browns' contest against the Buffalo Bills. He will have an MRI on his right knee.

With 11:32 left in the first quarter Thursday night's game, Hoyer scrambled to his right on second-and-9 from his own 36-yard line. At the end of the play he was hit by Bills rookie linebacker Kiko Alonso at the Browns' 47-yard line. Hoyer had both of his legs caught up underneath him, and he was eventually helped off the field.

Hoyer and the suddenly resurgent Browns had won their past two games since he took over as quarterback.

Hoyer replaced 2012 first-round draft pick Brandon Weeden as the Browns’ starter after Weeden was hurt with a sprained thumb in September. In two games as a starter — wins over the Minnesota Vikings and Cincinnati Bengals — Hoyer completed 55 of 92 passes for 590 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
