The Baltimore Ravens have released wide receiver Brandon Stokely and re-signed tight end Billy Bajema, who had been cut earlier in the week.
Ryan Mink of BaltimoreRavens.com reports that the move comes as the reigning Super Bowl champs experience a glut in their receiving corps:
Second-year wide receiver Deonte Thompson emerged in his first game of the season, making four catches for 50 yards in Buffalo. He has more speed and explosiveness than the veteran Stokley, and also works the slot.Stokely is a 15 year veteran on the NFL and was in his second stint with the Ravens, who drafted him in 1999.
The Ravens also like what they've seen from rookie free agent Marlon Brown, who has three touchdowns. They likely wouldn't want to take him off the field with the return of Jacoby Jones approaching.
