The Oakland Raiders have released backup quarterback Matt Flynn, a source tells Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter.

Oakland gave up two draft picks to acquire Flynn from Seattle in the offseason and then signed him to a contract with $6.5 million in guaranteed money.

However, Flynn disappointed throughout his short tenure in Oakland, losing the starting job to Terrelle Pryor in training camp and then falling to third on the depth chart behind Matt McGloin last week.

FARRAR: Terrelle Pryor continues to emerge

Flynn was a hot prospect after throwing for 480 yards and 6 touchdowns in the final game of the 2011-12 season for the Packers. He was signed by the Seahawks that offseason, but he was unable to win the starting job against then-rookie Russell Wilson and served as backup until he was brought on by the Raiders.
