NFL commissioner Roger Goodell says that playoff expansion is an option for the 2015 season, according to NFL.com's Chris Wesseling.

The league's competition committee voted down a proposal to expand the playoffs earlier this year, but Goodell has said expanding the postseason from 12 to 14 teams is a priority for the committee. The commissioner said the bigger playoffs would be better for fans:

"If expanding the postseason would allow other teams to get into the dance, and they have the potential of going on and winning the Super Bowl," Goodell explained, "that's a good thing for fans, that a good thing competitively."

The commissioner also said that if the expansion proposal is passed, it would not be able to be enacted until the 2015 season because of scheduling conflicts.
