The NHL suspended San Jose Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart for three games without pay for an illegal check to the head of New York Rangers forward Rick Nash during Tuesday night's game, the league announced.

Stuart was hit with a two-minute minor penalty for elbowing Nash in the head in the first period of the Sharks 9-2 victory.

Nash left the game with a concussion.

"It got worse as it went on," Nash said after the game. "It just didn't feel right. I haven't seen a replay, but he caught me right across the head, so, I guess it's a headshot."

Stuart will lose $55,384.62 in salary and miss games on the road against Vancouver, at home versus Ottawa and a road contest against the St. Louis Blues.
