Point guard Trey Burke, the Utah Jazz's No. 9 overall draft pick, broke his right index finger during the team's preseason game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night, the Jazz announced.

He will be out three to six weeks and has yet to make a decision on whether to have surgery, his father/agent told the Salt Lake Tribune's Steve Luhm on Sunday.

Burke suffered the injury less than seven minutes into the first quarter of his third career game when he made a pass around Clippers point guard Chris Paul. He immediately looked at his hand in pain and clutched it as a trainer escorted him off the court.

The rookie later returned to the game with his fingers taped together.

Burke will be reevaluated on Monday to determine if he needs surgery, according to ESPN's Marc Stein. The Jazz could revisit their interest in Bulls second-year point guard Marquis Teague if Burke will be sidelined for a significant stretch, Stein is reporting.

John Lucas III and Scott Machado are the only two other point guards currently on Utah's roster.

Utah acquired the 20-year-old Burke -- the Naismith College Player of the Year as a sophomore for national runner-up Michigan last season -- in a draft-day trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the No. 14 and 21 picks, which they used to select UCLA's Shabazz Muhammad and Louisville's Gorgui Dieng.
